AMCA Nationals Update
To all the drivers, crews and families, we wish you all a prosperous and happy new year.
As you are all now aware, we have had to make another painstaking decision to cancel the AMCA Nationals Australian Title that was to be held at Carrick Speedway Tasmania.
Barnstorming Blanch Wins NSW Title
A bolstered field of 25 AMCA Nationals drivers turned out at Moama’s Heartland Raceway last Saturday night for the 2019-20 season running of their NSW Title, and it was home-state representative Tony Blanch who managed to snare the crown after a hard-charging performance.
Kime’s Northern Delight
It was certainly a fruitful first visit to Darwin’s Northline Speedway last weekend for Raymond Kime, who proved that he didn’t need track experience in order to emerge victorious in last Saturday night’s Greener Grass NT AMCA Nationals Title and continue what has been one of his strongest seasons yet.
Making the long 43 hour trek north-west to Australia’s Top End, his longest journey to date, it appeared that Kime’s decision to travel was a good one from the outset, with the Newcastle, NSW-based driver winning Friday night’s feature race in what was a pleasing prelude to Saturday night’s NT Title.
AMCA Nationals Represented Well
In what was a great credit to the AMCA Nationals class and the talent within, the recent Australian Speedway Awards at the Adelaide Convention Centre in South Australia saw current Australian Champion Matt Hardy recognised as the 2019 Modified Competitor of the Year.
WA Title to Mazzuchelli
Dominant is the only way to describe Sean Mazzuchelli’s victory in last Saturday night’s Western Australian AMCA Nationals Title at Narrogin Speedway, with the racer crossing the finish line over five seconds clear of his nearest rival.
A model of consistency throughout his heat races, Mazzuchelli may have won the feature race, but it was two-time WA Champion David Boyes who started from pole position in the all-important Western Australian Title-deciding feature race after winning the coin toss.
Ryder Snaps Tassie Title Streak
Defending champion Daniel Brooks was without a doubt the favourite heading into last Saturday night’s Tasmanian AMCA Nationals Title at Carrick Speedway as he attempted to clinch his fifth consecutive crown, but it was Andrew ‘Dooie’ Ryder who managed to put a stop to his dominance, scoring what was a popular victory amongst his rivals.
Having placed second in the 2017 running of the event to Brooks, also at Carrick Speedway, Ryder had unfinished business when it came to the Tasmanian Title, but it seems that the time was right last Saturday night for him to clinch his maiden state title, after a late-race charge saw him take the feature-race lead.
McCarthy Masters SA Title
Surviving what can only be described as a turbulent feature race, it was former Victorian Champion Darren ‘Plugger’ McCarthy who came out on top in last Saturday night’s South Australian AMCA Nationals Title at Murray Bridge Speedway.
With more cars finishing on the infield than greeting the chequered flag, just managing to make it to the end of the 30-lap South Australian Title-deciding feature race proved to be a challenge in itself; however, it was a challenge that McCarthy, from Mildura in Victoria, was more than capable of handling.
