L’Huillier Shows Impressive Form
After a slow 2016-17 season start, Matt L’Huillier certainly found his form over the past fortnight, coming away with some impressive results in both the Australian Championship and the Western Australian Title for the AMCA National class.
Having had a difficult start to the 2016-17 season, struggling with a combination of misfortune and mechanical issues, L’Huillier couldn’t have been happier to turn things around in the Australian Championship on home soil – Kalgoorlie International Speedway – a fortnight ago, lining up 12th for the 40-lap feature race, after finishing sixth, second, fifth and second again in his heat races throughout the weekend.
Reidy’s Road to National Glory
Though it’s been a long and turbulent journey towards achieving his long-awaited ambition of winning an Australian AMCA Nationals Championship, it was all made worthwhile last weekend, when Tim Reidy claimed a well-deserved victory at Kalgoorlie International Speedway.
Claiming the chequered flag after a stellar performance in the two-night event, Reidy was filled with an equal wave of joy and relief, with his quest for Australian Championship Glory having certainly not been easy, beginning with his first three attempts in the event from 2009 to 2011 at Mildura’s Timmis Speedway (Vic), Murray Bridge Speedway (SA) and Dubbo’s Morris Park Speedway (NSW) failing to produce his desired results.
Twice As Nice for Reidy
Newly-crowned Australian Champion Tim Reidy further cemented his status as the country’s leading driver on Friday night, taking out the Western Australian AMCA Nationals Title at Esperance Speedway.
With rain threatening to cancel the event, it was Victorian Reidy who managed to master the tricky track conditions in the feature race, coming away with the WA Title crown, off the back of his impressive Australian Champion victory at Kalgoorlie International Speedway the weekend prior. However, it wasn’t all smooth sailing for the Australian Champion.
Australian Championship Podium for Boyes
David Boyes couldn’t have been happier to finish third in last weekend’s Australian AMCA Nationals Championship at his home track – Kalgoorlie International Speedway – becoming the first ever Western Australian-based racer to score a podium result in the event.
Off the back of a disappointing result in his maiden Australian Championship attempt at Murray Bridge Speedway in South Australia during the 2014-15 season running of the event, where he missed out on the feature race after finishing ninth in the B main, the current and two-time Western Australian Champion was thrilled to have well and truly made amends in his second attempt in the event.
Collins Claims Australian Championship Podium Finish
Delivering a solid performance throughout last weekend’s Australian AMCA Nationals Championship at Kalgoorlie International Speedway in Western Australia, Geelong’s Jamie Collins came away with a runner-up finish.
A model of consistency throughout the weekend, the current Victorian Champion was awarded a front-row starting position for the 40-lap Australian Championship-deciding feature race, after winning three of his four heat races and finishing fifth in the other, impressively setting quick times in each of them.
Reidy Ends Australian Championship Drought
After a decade of trying, Tim Reidy finally broke through last weekend, delivering a faultless performance to win the 2017 Australian AMCA Nationals Championship at Kalgoorlie International Speedway in Western Australia.
Having finished runner-up in the past two Australian Championship events at Lismore Speedway (NSW) and Murray Bridge Speedway (SA), the Victorian-based racer was a dominant force from the outset, qualifying pole for the feature race, by virtue of winning each of his three heat races on the opening night of competition and finishing fourth in his remaining heat race on Sunday night.
Drivers Hunting for Australian Title Gold
A stout field of local contenders will attempt to fend off a formidable line-up of interstate invaders when they take to the Kalgoorlie International Speedway track this weekend in search of Australian AMCA Nationals Title gold.
The talented interstate contingent, which includes three state champions, will make the trip west from throughout South Australia, the Northern Territory, Queensland, Victoria and Tasmania in an effort to take top honours, while 17 locals will ensure they are met with a tough defence.
Molle Podiums in NSW Title
Up against some of the country’s toughest drivers, Jason Molle was rapt to come away with a third-place finish in last Saturday night’s NSW AMCA Nationals Title at Gilgandra Speedway.
The Gold Coast-based racer was in the best possible form in the early stages of the night, winning his opening heat race and setting the fastest lap of the heat races, before finishing third and sixth, placing him out of position six for the 30-lap NSW Title-deciding feature race.
