Continuing his Tasmanian AMCA National Title reign, Daniel Brooks made it a remarkable four wins on the trot in last Saturday night’s running of the event at Cranes Combined Carrick Speedway.

The event, which was initially washed out on its original date last month, attracted a field of 19 cars and just like last season’s event, Brooks, from Bothwell in Tasmania, started from pole position and then led all 30-laps. The race was run at a frantic pace as the final 23-laps ran non-stop after an early caution on lap seven.

Finishing in the runner-up position was Adrian Bassett. Improving on his third placing in last season’s event, he remained in second place for the race distance, but did close the gap on a few occasions, when Brooks would encounter lapped traffic. In the end though, Brooks had too much pace for Bassett and he finished just under three seconds adrift of the lead.

Completing the podium in third place was Jake Briggs, who put in a consistent drive to maintain the position for the race’s entirety. It was a strong performance from Briggs and added to his list of season highlights, which includes a maiden feature-race win at Solo Hobart Speedway and the best-presented car award at the recent Australian Title on the mainland.

Rodney Bassett, who is the father of Adrian, was one of the feature race’s standouts. After starting from position 15, he methodically worked his way through the field and just prior to halfway distance, was up to fifth in the field. After the unfortunate retirement of Rohan Blair, Bassett inherited fourth and that’s where he stayed until the chequered flag dropped.

Rounding out the top-five finishers was Tim Tubb. After qualifying for the feature race in position nine, Tubb drove a consistent race was able to move forward during the race to snare a top five result.

Garth Stevens, Dennis Davidson, Jacob Williams and Sandor Nagy completed the final finishers in ninth place.

The feature-race causalities were Blair, Ellis Dickenson, Mick Boyd, Justin Richardson, Ray Taylor and Ben Kane, who were all forced into retirement, due to numerous mechanical issues.

Earlier in the night, the heat-race wins were shared between Brooks (x 2), Blair, Rodney Bassett, Adrian Bassett and Stevens.

The next major AMCA Nationals event on the season calendar will be the South Australian Title at Mildura’s Timmis Speedway over the Easter long weekend, which is going to run in conjunction with the two-night All Stars Series on the Friday night March 30 and the Sunday night of April 1.
