Thanks to his improved consistency and competitive pace throughout the 2016-17 season in the AMCA Nationals class, Terry Pankhurst has enjoyed one of the best seasons he’s had for some time.

Despite not having competed in all of the NSW Club Championship rounds and therefore being out of contention for the Championship, Pankhurst’s performance throughout the season has been a strong one, with the Central Coast-based racer impressively managing to visit the podium in seven of the eight race meetings he’s contested.

Beginning his 2016-17 season campaign in challenging fashion by bending a steering component in a heat race during his first outing in October, Pankhurst was able to maintain his composure and utilise his experience to salvage a fifth-place result in the feature race at Sydney’s Valvoline Raceway.

The following month, Pankhurst certainly made amends in his second race meeting at Tamworth’s Oakburn Park Speedway, where he delivered a solid drive to claim the runner-up spot, foreshadowing what would be the first of a string of pleasing podium results.

Racking up three more runner-up and third-place results each over the next six race meetings at Valvoline Raceway and Narrabri's Newton Park Speedway, Pankhurst is justly pleased with his overall season performance.

“The 2016-17 season has been a very positive season for us and while we’ve been knocking on the door of a feature-race win and haven’t quite been able to get there, scoring a podium in seven out of eight race meetings is certainly nothing to be ashamed of,” commented the NSW # 21 Hi-Tec Oils supported Redline Mach 1 racer, whose season was highlighted by running second to Matt Hardy, the current Australian Champion at the time, on Boxing Night at Valvoline Raceway, with Matt’s dad, Russ Hardy, finishing third.

“Having split the Hardy clan on Boxing Night was without a doubt the most significant moment of the season for the team. Being able to run amongst two of the country’s best drivers, who are running Chevrolet engines, while I’m running a 253, was a great achievement and a testament to the work my team puts into my car and engine.

“I can’t thank my family, team and sponsors enough for the amazing support they continue to give me, especially Bob Dennis from Redline Racecars & Roll Cages who has played a huge part in my consistent form. We’ve achieved a lot with a little this season, and that’s something we’ll be looking to build on next season, along with maintaining our consistency.”

Pankhurst would like to thank the following 2016-17 season sponsors for their valued support: Hi-Tec Oils, Street Neat Welding, Redline Racecars & Roll Cages, and Speedway Stickers.
