After recently winning the Australian AMCA Nationals Title, newly-crowned champion Jeremy Moore thought his 2017-18 season couldn’t have gotten any better, until he won last Saturday night’s Victorian Title at Swan Hill’s Sonic Speedway.

With the thrill of his recent career highlight having not yet fully sunk in, Moore did not weigh himself down with added pressure or expectations heading into the Victorian Title, particularly after a huge week of work prior to the event left him with little time to prepare his car. However, this proved to be no issue for the Kybybolite, SA-based racer.

While admittedly struggling to come to grips with the tricky track conditions throughout his heat races, Moore’s consistency aboard his Naracoorte Pumps & Electrical supported Panther car, which was sporting a large Aus # 1 sticker, saw him place second, third and second in his heat races, earning him the pole position start for the Victorian Title-deciding feature race.

Understanding the importance of getting a good start in the feature race on what had become a one-lane race track, similar to that of Ballarat’s Redline Raceway in the Australian Title, Moore knew that he would need to be gentle on the throttle so as not to over-drive his car and make a mistake.

Doing exactly that, the 47-year-old racer didn’t put a foot wrong throughout the 30-lap distance, leading from start to finish to take a convincing win, claiming the Victorian Title crown and proving that his Australian Title victory was no fluke.

“I’m definitely still on a high from my Australian Title win, so to back it up is just an indescribable feeling,” exclaimed Moore, whose only other race meeting at Sonic Speedway took place during his debut season.

“With a lot of top drivers having issues throughout the Australian Title, I really wanted to prove to myself and everyone else that winning the event wasn’t just a fluke, so being able to back up that form and win the Victorian Title definitely proves that and gives me a great deal of confidence in my abilities.”

After the excitement of the past two weeks, Moore will now take a break from racing, returning to the track over Easter to contest a doubleheader at Mildura’s Timmis Speedway, which will consist of the South Australian Title on March 30 and the fifth Action Series round on April 1. Both nights of racing will also make up the two-night All Stars Series.
