Following a second-place finish in last season’s Western Australian AMCA Nationals Title, Matt L’Huillier last Saturday night at Manjimup Speedway for the 2017-18 season running of the event was able to go one spot better.

After a dream run at Manjimup Speedway earlier in the season which saw him dominate his three heat races and the feature race, L’Huillier’s confidence was high heading into the WA Title.

L’Huillier, who made the move from Victoria to Kalgoorlie in WA back in 2002, went into the WA-Title deciding feature race as the second highest point scorer, after he had won one of his heat races and finished second and third in the other two.

Showing solid pace from the drop of the green flag for the 20-lap event, L’Huillier initially settled into the second and then went about playing the chasing game. It wasn’t until a lap 12 caution period, when L’Huillier’s winning hopes came alive and on the restart passed two-time WA Champion David Boyes for the lead and was never headed.
To say that L’Huillier was rapt with being able to improve on last season’s second place in the WA Title would be quite the understatement.

“Winning the WA Title is definitely a new career highlight for me, and I couldn’t have been happier with the car during the feature race, as it came on in the latter stages and that was testament to a good car setup,” expressed the 41-year-old racer, who said it was a great honour to win his first state title, as his late dad Mick had achieved state title success in Victoria in the Standard Saloon class.

“To be quite honest, heading into the WA Title, I was quite nervous, as in all major events, you need a bit of luck and I thought I might’ve used it all up in my previous run at the track earlier in the season.”

With only two race meetings remaining in the season, L’Huillier is aiming to consolidate his top-three spot in the current WA Action Series point standings. The final WA Action Series round is going to be held at Margaret River Speedway on the Saturday night of April 21.

L’Huillier would like to thank the following 2017-18 season sponsors for their valued support: Wright's Onsite Maintenance & Fabrication, Prolap Motorsports, Goldfields Machining, Ado’s Tilt Tray, Kalsigns, and KG Photography. He would also like to give special thanks to Steve and Jacque Wright, Eddie Boeg and Scott Edmunds, along with his wife (Emma) and their three children: Ava, Violet and Tate.
